Soon you will start seeing changes to the snack isle at your local stores. Mars Inc, the maker of some of the worlds most popular snack foods: Snickers, M&M’s, Twix etc. is making changes to their sweet treats by the end of 2013. Mars says “this is part of an ongoing effort to improve the nutritional value of their products.”
Mars Inc. plans to stop making and selling chocolate treats that contain more than 250 calories.
This new calorie limit means that the 540 -calorie King Size Snickers Bar will be going away – so you might want to stock up while you can.
Mars states ” it will reduce sodium levels in all its products by 25% by 2015″.
Spokesperson Marlene Machut said “the plan to stop shipping any chocolate product that exceeded 250 calories per portion by the end of 2013 – a target first announced last fall – was part of Mars’ broad-based commitment to health and nutrition.”
Mars Inc. manufactures more than just candy, it is also the maker of Uncle Ben’s Rice, Dove Ice Cream Bars as well as some brand of pet foods.
